It’s BACK! The Fort Smith Museum of History’s annual Children’s Summer Programming begins Thursday, June 6 and continues each Thursday during the month of June from 10:00 am- 11:30 am. It is free to children and their adults.  Each Thursday will spotlight a historic organization in Fort Smith that has been and continues to be helpers and heroes in Fort Smith history. This summer’s program will focus on the Fort Smith Police Department, the Fort Smith Fire Department, Nuns & Nurses, and the U.S. Marshals.  The good work of these organizations in the community began almost as early as the City of Fort Smith’s founding and continues on today. Children will be treated to history lessons and experience special artifacts within the FSMH collection that helps tell the story of these important organizations. Lots of hand-on activities will bring these organizations to life for all who attend!

Each Thursday will begin at 10:00 am with a story time related to the helpers and heroes of the day. FSMH volunteer, Nancy Ahlert will read to children and take them on a journey through the important ways these heroes and helpers make a difference in the in the city and its people. Then, it is on to a hand-on activity that kids can get involved with! The morning ends with a special ice cream treat in the FSMH turn-of-the-century Soda Fountain.
