About the Event

Sidney Thompson is the author of Follow the Angels, Follow the Doves (2020) and Hell on the Border (2021), historical novels that have won numerous awards for narrating the real-life story of Bass Reeves, the Arkansas native who, after escaping slavery by overpowering his master, a prominent Confederate officer and Texas politician, became the greatest lawman of the American Old West. Thompson is currently working to complete the third book of the trilogy. He holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Arkansas and a Ph.D. in American literature/African-American narratives from the University of North Texas. His other books include You/Wee: Poems from a Father (2018) and Sideshow (2006), winner of Foreword INDIES Silver Award for Short Story Collection of the Year. Thompson lives in Fort Worth, where he teaches creative writing and African-American literature at Texas Christian University.
